Honda AWD

2019 Honda CR-V Parked in Snow

All-wheel drive provides the traction and control that you need on slick or icy New Haven area roads. The standard all-wheel-drive system engages the rear wheels using mechanical means, but the Honda AWD offers a different, more effective method. Learn more about how Honda AWD works, and which models you can find it on, then schedule a test drive at Executive Honda.

How Does Honda AWD Work?

Honda Real Time AWD™ with Intelligent Control System features front-wheel-drive and adds a rear differential. If your Honda senses that it’s losing traction on a wet, snowy, or slippery road surface, the system engages the rear differential with a multi-plate clutch system. Once the rear wheels are engaged the vehicle is operating with AWD.

With traditional AWD systems, there is often a lag before all wheel are engaged. With the Honda Real Time AWD™ and Intelligent Control System, the transition is virtually instantaneous. When all-wheel drive is needed, an electric motor on your vehicle’s transmission quickly and smoothly make the change, and in most cases, you won’t even notice it.

The Honda Real Time AWD™ with Intelligent Control System will disengage just as quickly and effortlessly. This fast response provides better control and minimizes the energy required to drive your Honda. The bottom line is that the Honda Real Time AWD™ system is more efficient than a traditional mechanical AWD system.
